Awesome 2x (Pisgah summit, DOUSE, "Oil Can") Hunt

August 8, 2017 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 90s, hot, super-smokey

Comments:
I led this hunt. It was high time for a fun and "refreshing" hunt.

Solid crew today:
- me, Lewis
- CB, Evan, Callie Alice (who drove home from an inspection, rather than stay on the road)

The idea for this hunt was to "embrace" the heat with a jump into the Coast Fork Willamette, which runs right by Mt Pisgah park, east of Eugene. We'd done this once, a couple years ago, and a smokey, hot-ass day seemed perfect.

Ran from the horse lot (nearest the river), flat for a mile, then up the "Cam Hanes Route" (sort of trail, straight) up Pisgah, then down the more gradual "Trail 4", back to the lot...then nearly straight into the river! But...not before I grabbed two tall boys: a Rainier Beer silo and an OIL CAN (25oz) of Fosters! We sat in dammed up, neck deep river water (that was nearly "not cold" enough!) and guzzled beer at this "aid station".

Then, as an homage to MR Endicott (who (likely in the winter of '14) ran up to the summit *carrying a box of Pringles* (not a small sleeve, but a Costco-size box of like 16 snack packs) to the top of Pisgah...while hauling ass, doing so!)... we did a classic Trail #1 summit with a full sleeve of sour cream & onion Pringles. Pounded those on the top, then "Kept Hammering" down, then straight into the river, again! This time, sharing another Foster's Oil Can.

AMAZING hunt: 8+ miles, >2k' vert, and two douses! Really fun. Felt pretty dang good, too, all things considered.

Social'd back at tMS with a good Melvin IPA (Jackson Hole-area).
