Old Balls run - PRE from T&G

September 18, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60, recent rain but clear

Comments:
Weird day. Had my sister's family at the house overnight: Brandie and Evan in the guest room; Josie and Nate on the couches. Somehow, both Nate and Josie got sick, so they were coughing intermittently during the night, which hampered sleep. Still, I slept OK.

Got up at 6ish (tried to go back to sleep, to no avail) then got ready at 7. Made coffee and hung out with the kiddos 'til I had to bid them all goodbye, heading to work. Great trip -- a interesting big chunk of time around little (and at times, handfuls) kiddos, but still really good.

Treated one patient, then was inundated with coaching, since I scarcely got any done yesterday. Got an allergy shot, too.

Post-shot, even though I was tired from yesterday, I headed out for a run around 11:30. I drove the U-Van to T&G, downtown, and launched from there so I could run PRE.

Ran EASY past the old apt, stopping to stretch my right heel, which remains fairly stiff. All in all, since I optimized my stride:

- TALL (and mega pull)
- max hip extension + Salazar Stride

both feet and ankles are wayyy better, despite the 100-mile week.

Jogged around Skinner Butte, deuce stopped at the bathroom there, then ran back to Alton and onto the old PRE loop.

From there, I tried to "sleep run" -- that idea of finding SO much "ease" that you can almost close your eyes. I did that, as well as working on my "6-8" breathing rhtyhm that I employed yesterday: inhale 3 steps (L-R-L) and exhale 3 steps (R-L-R). Felt good and sustainable.

Beautiful day, too: cool, crisp and damp, but not soaked. Let's hope we can have some more of these intermittent damp days before the deluge!

Ran easy clockwise around PRE. Near I-5 I ran into Justin, my old EPT coworker (now at UO PT), and he doubled back with me to "run easy". Justin's about 37 and (though injury-prone) is super-fast. Found out he, too, is running PDX marathon, but I guess he'll run about 20min faster than me!

We ran about 7:20s on the bark, all the way back to the parking lot. Good chats. He's a good guy. Once he peeled off to head back to campus, I did x6 strides then shuffled back to the van.

Rest of the day:
- home to CA for late brunch
- tons more coaching
- yoga
- post-yoga beers
- birthday dinner and homemade cheesecake! (For which I had to go by lactaid at the pharmacy in hopes of digesting the dairy!)

GREAT, amazing birthday. CA was so clutch ("SOOO SOLID"). She did like a million great things for me. I don't deserve it, but I'm grateful.
