Amanda Trail/Cape Perpetua LO and back with CA

September 16, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60, a bit cooler

Comments:
Took no chances today, running this one 100% fasted (except for AM coffee). There were thoughts of CA and I running from the house in town, down to the Cape Perpetua lookout, which can be done with side roads, then a good 3 miles of trail. We figured we could get a ride back from Harts, who would tour around the area.

CA and I left and ran south along the roads and neighborhoods, once again. We then took turns leading on the coastal trail, then once we got on the Amanda Trail (which climbs Hardesty-like for 2K and about 1000'), I led.

I felt really good today. WAY better than yesterday. I kept the effort as mellow as can be, stopping to hike only when I sensed that CA was working too hard. I really enjoyed that trail, once we hit the plateau. It rolls in this "spooky forest" of coastal trees". There's no view, that deep yet, but it's peaceful and awesome.

Got to the lookout at 5.3 miles. I brought my phone and messaged my sis, and we agreed we'd just run back to the house, which would be perfect.

Doubled back, headed back down. The descent was Hardesty-jarring, but otherwise fine. CA got a little negative when she had some symptoms back on the road, but honestly, they were minimal and her stride was solid. We did x6 strides on the road to the house to wrap-up.

What I found: if (and only if) I did strong, full hip extension could I catch CA on a max-sprint stride. Really worked on that.

Rest of the day:
- ate (again a little dairy, then got groggy)
- went down to the river at low tide and played around with the kids (before which I went and got allergy meds, but Zyrtek by accident)
- great dinner back home of brats, shrimp, salad
- played football outside with Evan and Josie

After that...it was weird. Suddenly I got really "allergened": like super-tired, dizzy...so I laid down on the couch at like 8:30...and slept 'til 10! WTF? Really weird.

Was it the different allergy med? Something in the food? Dunno, but it was weird. But at least I got a lot of sleep! :-p

(Wore the Altra Escalante's. Super-clutch, mega-soft shoe)
