Bates SP (Middle Fork John Day River) 5x3:00 with CA

July 11, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, nice, sunny

Comments:
Good sleeping at Bates SP. While CA did her AM routine, I took off for some add-on mileage. Can't remember if I can coffee beforehand (I think not), so I felt pretty ok. The campground was on a side road - country road, not a busy highway - along the Middle Fork John Day River. It was perfect running. Nearly 100% flat (or like 1% downriver grade). Did a bit of exploring, but basically did out and back of about 4.5 miles to get CA.

We ran out the direction as before, a bit easier, to let her warm-up. I had an idea of doing some sort of workout, so we decided on 3:00 pick-ups with 2:00 rest. So after a couple miles outbound, we turned back and started the workout.

I felt heavy...but OK. ON days like this one, it's good to just "do" and not look at the results. Every 3:00 rep had some uphill (but not much, like 10-30'), but gosh, they were slow. I covered between 0.49 and 0.51 miles per 3:00...hardly much at all. But at altitude (5000') and in the AM...and uphill...well, it was just fine.

Post-run:
- made liquids at the camp and showered up
- drove West, across the rest of Oregon, through southern Idaho and into Utah
- quick stop in Boise for donuts :-)
- ate at a crappy place in Park City UT, before finding a solid (but crowded) CG up in the Wasatch above SLC.
