Eagles Rest up and down with CA

September 23, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50-65, nice

Comments:
Drove from the meet, straight to Hardesty TH.

CA and I tried this bottle of "exogenous ketones" in the AM. They're supposed to really amp performance (in pure fat-burning mode, the brain runs really well on ketones -- and these are supposed to emulate that). Well, we failed to dilute the shots and took them like medicine. But it was SO acidic, it KILLED my stomach. Felt like ASS for a few hours in the AM, but thankfully came around by run time.

The idea was a strict up and down, nearly 14 miles, and to-be CA's longest real run of the year. It's no Hardesty, but it's not easy, either, climbing about 2500-3000'.

CA led, and was like grinding from the first step! I was simply trying to get things moving: once again feeling really stiff in the hips-pelvis and ankles. After the first mile, I snarked at her, a bit, to slow down, before simply sneaking in front at the first creek crossing. From there, the pace was more moderate.

Our splits were pretty solid:

TH to Eagles Rest TH (Goodman Creek trail, 4+ miles): 45:14
TH to summit (2.5): 32:18

Once at the top, I took quite a while to stretch: hips, back, then some abs to firm it up. It just felt like I was fighting this stiffness, even though I felt my hip extension was strong.

From there, we descended, me leading back to Goodman. Felt good, but not pushing it. Just trying to be "circular". Ran into some mild right ab cramping. Makes me wonder if that's from the right pelvis stiffness...

Once back at the road, CA led, and wow, she PUSHED! Her downhills were solid, and I was shocked at how hard (yet strong-relaxed) she ran on the ups. It wasn't hard to keep up...but it wasn't easy, either. Legit effort.

Splits:
summit to TH: 21:16
Goodman: 35:32

That's our fastest Goodman in a while (and maybe a minute off my fastest recorded...though apparently she and I bombed a 33 back in '14).

GOOD RUN for her. She had almost NO symptoms! Really cool!

Rest of the day:
- home for "breakfast" (at 4pm)
- went and got the bikes (supposed to ride Crater tomorrow, but it's gonna only be 50F!)
- relaxed at home, reading
- to Matt's to watch the duck game

Good relaxing day. I wish we'd gone camping or something, but it was good to just chill.
