October 14, 2009 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: chilly
Comments:
Goals: Didn't reallly have any but to keep my spot
What I did well: Didn't give up, got my same Silverwood time (which made me really proud because I felt awful on this race)
What I didn't: Didn't prepare myself for the race in any way (like I didn't drink any water or eat healthy the day before), didn't finish well
Gun Goes Off: I could tell from this point that it was going to be a long race.
Mile 1: Felt not so great. But it was really crowded and I was really stressed out.
Mile 2: Felt a little bit worse. But I didn't slow down. My mind was like aching for a distraction. And then I noticed Becca not so far ahead of me. So I decided to try to catch up to her.
Mile 3: Slowly but surely I caught up to Becca for like 2 seconds. And then Meghan and Savannah (who I thought was Kerrie until I finished) came up and we were running in a pack of 4 for a few seconds. And it was so weird because I'm used to running races on my own and actually for a few seconds I started to freak out, knowing that I was number 6 and there was 2 girls from our team behind me. And I relized that I was going to lose my spot to one of them if I slowed down like I wanted to. Becca sped up and I tried to a little bit but then I couldn't keep up with her. And I like mentally just died. I wanted to slow down so bad but I told myself, "No! You're not throwing away the one thing you've worked hard to keep all season!" So I just kept trudging along to the...
Last 100: This is where it all fell apart...ha. I went a little slower and then some girl passed me and I crossed that white line that I thought was the finish so I like half walked but then realized it wasn't. And then BOOM! Out of nowhere Savannah was like a crazy running beast and was in front of me. And I was like WHAT!? Because I had no idea that she was so close to me the whole time. She had a really good race.
So I hated this race, but I feel like I can still take a little from it. Because I didn't let myself give up. And I learned to never let your guard down in races not even a few inches from the finish. Because if somebody else would have came with Savannah I would have been booted off varsity and I'd be very sad right now.
Oh, and I'm very proud of people who had a good race on such a yucky course after sitting all day at school and racing on Saturday.
