Jaquaville Hunt

September 26, 2017 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Perfect fall night: 70, sunny, dry

Comments:
Nate Jaqua led this hunt from his family's land on the McKenzie, NE of town (about 10 miles out of town). BEAUTIFUL "estate" where they, among other things, have huge swaths of hazelnut orchards. They also own land (and-or have donated it) across the highway.

Post hill sprints, I:
- worked
- lifted weights
- came home and ate an allergenic breakfast (some butter; lots of olive oil pesto)
- returned to work (and was super tired)

So I was pretty tired and allergen'd when I got to the Jaqua's, as was Callie (at least tired), coming from her first day of instructing at the UO.

Good crew including:
- me, Lewis
- Evan, CB, CA

Ran through the orchard, then into a tight singletrack to cross the highway, then a STEEEEEP uphill hike (like 40% grade) up this rocky ridge to a plateau of "the Coburg Hills". From there, it was a nice run over the top, then some more climbing along a gravel road into one of the few native Oak savannahs (ala Pointed Rocks) in Oregon.

Beautiful.

But tough run. SOOO tired and sluggish. Just felt like ass. Some was the previous work, but a lot of it was nutrition. This is what I've learned: I eat the wrong thing, I feel fucking TERRIBLE. Simple as that.

Beautiful run, though - some single track, some dirt road, then a long, gradual descent through the savannah, back to the highway and the Jaqua property. We rounded out the run with a big loop through the hazelnuts, back to one of several houses on the property.

Social: just us, out on the porch, looking at stars. Perfect site at a perfect time. Thanks, Nate
