Condor 25K - spectating with CA

October 1, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50-60, SUNNY! Cool but nice

Comments:
Woke up early for CA's first race since Waldo, '16! The Condor 25K is a trail race in Mac Forest, and it was the first race CA ran here, back in '13. It was memorable, as she battled with Pam Smith (in her '13 UROY heyday), and eventually lost. As it turned out, Pam was also running, so it'd be a rematch of sorts -- admittedly at "lesser strength" for them both.

I was still a little hungover from Thursday, and had some gut rot from some tasty - but incendiary - tacos CA made last night from peppers in the garden. We were BOTH feeling it: with several "extra stops" to deuce this AM.

As such, I wasn't totally looking forward to big miles, but I resigned myself to run during the race, as a way to get mileage while spectating.

It was POURING rain in Eugene when we left...but halfway to Corvallis, the skies dried and cleared to a beautiful morning that would stay the rest of the day. Great luck.

Ran 1.5 miles with CA for a warm-up, then saw her off on her triumphant return!

During her race, I managed to somehow run backwards -- at various times -- on the course, so I wound up seeing her 4-5 times, yet not running up on the race much at all. It worked pretty well.

TOUGH course. I wound up with a TON of vert, and too much grinding, trying to make it place and otherwise keep pace. Would've been a tough race for ME to run!

CA did great, and looked SO strong. She got out front and stayed there. Pam was lurking a few minutes back, but never threatened - and simply didn't look that good. CA closed for the win, although it wasn't without issues: she has some ab cramping (same as Thursday) and some "DB" in the final several miles. But...I'd say it was a good day.

Wound up with nearly 14 miles at 2500' vert!

Post run:
- to Corvallis for good brunch and donuts
- home for me to get some coaching done
- walked to Turtles' for Nate Belve-Jaqua's stepdad's "cancer free" party. Good fest, but too much beer (and not enough food), too early!
- late (and too much) dinner!
