Making the Hard Decision Most of the Time

November 4, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
DC States today--the last meet of the season. :'( It was a surprisingly good race for the amount of dislike I have for the course. Matt in his normal fashion came jumping out at us from the undergrowth during a warmup. We were the first race which I like. Took the first mile hardish (about 7:57) and I guess slowed down some in the second mile, but not because I was too tired, just because it was too fast to maintain the entire race. Ran the first mile about 30 meters behind Jenna with Grace about the same distance behind me. Around halfway through the race, Grace caught up to me which I appreciated because my motivation was dwindling. We ran side by side for the next half mile maybe, until we both caught up to Jenna. I like to run the first bit of races by myself, so I can figure out my pace, but I really enjoyed the pack in the middle of the race. A bit after the 3k mark, Grace started to pull away, and I went with her, though stayed about 15 meters behind her. I tried to finish hard, but couldn't get into a full sprint for my kick. Ran 25:55 which I'm satisfied with, especially since the probably-long course most likely added 20+ seconds. I feel like I raced hard, and I'm proud of my performance for the last race of the season.

Now, because I've already written way too much, I might as well continue and talk about my season as a whole. I'm so happy with how this season went. I'm incredibly thankful that my shins improved so much, and while I'm not sure if it's because of my consistent summer training or because of some more medical thing about bone growth or density, I'm definitely going to try to be as consistent next summer again because it definitely contributed to a good season. I think because I had less pain, I really gained much more of a love for running as a sport and as exercise than previous years. I've always loved running because of the team, but I've had so many runs this season that I've enjoyed because I felt good. That's so exciting. I think this is the season that I started to think for myself as a runner, and while I wish I'd gotten here sooner, I still have 5 seasons (hopefully) to use everything I've learned. I love this team and sport more than pretty much anything else, and am so grateful to have it to support me. October was one of the worst months of my life, and running is what I looked forward to every day. This team is strong in a way that can only be felt, but I've felt it constantly in the last month (and many other times). I love all the GDS runners so much, and I'm so proud to be a part of something as wonderful as the GDS running program. Ran Good Hoppers!!!
