BoR - Appalachian Trail Run

November 12, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid 40s, dry, clear (but not sunny)

Comments:
Up early, pictures, then into a van for an Appalachian Trail Run. Nearly all the campers (and most of the mentors) went. Even though I'm still in rest-mode, I wanted to check it out.

Fun run: easy, even up front, for the first few miles. Then wound up hiking the final 2k, which was a grinder climb to a really cool open-rock lookout. Had some good HS coaching chats with Jason Bryant. He's super-solid, too!

Hung out on the top 'til everyone made the summit -- about 4 miles and 1.5k up, total -- then headed down. I let one of the campers lead, but after a mile, I got a little restless and took the helm. Felt good to open things up and "let gravity do the work". I stopped to wait for 'em a couple times before wrapping up.

GOOD run, and cool trail! Rolling up and down, well-maintained, and beautiful. 8 miles total, with 2k total climb-down.

Rest of the day:
- hustled back to clean and pack
- to the airport right away, where I did work for a few hours
- had a beer with mentors
- flew to Chicago, then bid farewell to Joe Pruisatis
- flight back to EUG, late...then even later, with delays!

GOOD weekend. :-)
