January 23, 2018 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: drizzly but not bad
Comments:
Eugene has a really strong masters (ish) group in town, and I've been meaning to workout with them for YEARS. Today, I finally did.
I broke down and blocked it off my schedule. I've resisted this group (frankly, I don't like them very much), but simply put, I NEED fast runners to push me -- or at least a collective of warm bodies, all pushing.
So I went.
Nearly missed it as my alarm didn't go off (but as a trade-off, I slept well!). Got there at 7:20 and warmed up on my own (best that way, anyway).
The workout today: 2x 2-mile, 2x mile (then some optional 200s) on the bark.
BIG group:
Craig Leon (2:1x marathoner, still)
Fast Masters: Orin Schumacher, Orestes Giutierrez, Josh Gordon (they all beat me, but not by a ton, at that track mile last early summer), some other older, but FAST dude, Jeff McKay
Scott Williams (ran with the hunt sometimes, just ran 2:32 at CIM), then a couple other slower guys and Craig's fiancee, Julie (major grinder).
Felt pretty dang stiff and tired from the 30, but hung in there. Ran a bit in front of Julie and another guy for the first 2-mile. We only had a VERY short (1min?) recovery before the 2nd, where I fell back a bit.
I was gassed enough to skip the 1st mile, but pushed the 2nd mile pretty good.
Watch all-but-died, so I had to use the regular watch funcitons to track splits, so they're approximate:
2-mi: 12:10 (6:08, 6:02 or so)
2-mi: 12:30? (A bit faster, maybe, but like 6:10, 6:20)
1-mil: 5:40 (+/-)
Felt strong. Really worked the CROUCH, along with pawback and arch. Managed to keep track of my trunk, too. Noted some ab tension (likely stretching out).
Good workout! Glad to have joined! As much as I should try to "periodize", simply doing mixed quality work with help is most important.
