Lorane - CG loop with Bert

January 28, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 60s?? Super-nice!

Comments:
The plan today was a long bike ride. Callie's bro-in-law Bert is a big cyclist (and super-good duathlete), and he agreed to be nice to me and my "Steel Horse".

Plan A was to do a 70 miler (that I last did in 2015) in the foothills of CG. That route climbs like 5000, and would've been bad-ass but brutal. On our way, Bert stopped at a bike shop to tighten his pedal...only to find that the repairmen were concerned it would break off. About 90min and two shops later...we decided to keep it more local and more conservative.

This loop is awesome. I last (and only) did it in 2011 (post-AR50, while my knee hurt):

- west toward the winery hills
- south to Lorane
- back east to Cottage Grove
- north back to Eugene (vis Creswell)

GOOD RIDE. Bert was clearly faster but I'd say a big chunk of that was his bike. Pretty expedient ride, save his flat tire about 5 miles in.

BEAUTIFUL DAY and pretty reasonable effort. NOSE-BREATHING for nearly the entire time, even the hard uphills, 'til the very end. Good glute work - not too much dead quads -- on a rolling route that featured two substantial "pass" climbs (of maybe 750').

Gorgeous weather, nice wooded and winery views. and just a good time.

Stopped about a kilo from the house, at "The Old Pad" (where PRE worked) for a Breakside IPA! The finished the ride.

GREAT XT.

Stats:
52 miles
2300' up & down
3h15min

Rest of the day:

- cleaned up, coached a bit
- met the ladies at T&G
- Blairalley Arcade
- Meiji for dinner

Fun trip, glad to have 'em
