PCT run: CA44/Lassen NF

October 25, 2009 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Woke up at 0530 and was in my car in the parking garage at 0545. Tough to believe how many people were gambling at Bally's that early/late. Got onto I15 and then to US95, had to stop for gas on the way out of town, so by the time I was truly on the road it was just after 6.

Drive across the desert went fast: grabbed a coffee and listened to Weekend Edition on NPR. Only 1 stop in Nevada, otherwise I peed into a cup and poured it out the window! KEY!

No IN N OUT in Reno: I wanted to have a good stomach for the PCT run, and I figured 7 burgers in 4 days is "enough". I guess! :)

Got to the PCT trailhead at 2:30ish. Changed, finally found the actual trail (away from the signs) and did a run south through brush/lava fields (what Oregon's will look like in 100 years+), cresting a Ridge just north of the National Park. Pretty cool, but in retrospect I should've gone north into a burn area.

Nice little run: felt like shit at first (5000' altitude + hills?), but legs and lungs felt great on the run back. A long 4.

Back into the car, I didn't stop again 'til 5 miles from Springfield.

Considering I hammered 915mi in one day, it went GREAT. Overall, it was an AWESOME TRIP. Hope the ticket won't be too expensive. :s
