great McKenzie View + River ride with CA, Josh Jaqua

June 3, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: low 60s to high 60s, nice

Comments:
Today we drove to the Jaqua Plantation for a bike ride. Josh is the older brother of Nate, who I paced at WSER a year ago. Both good guys. I almost like Josh better -- a little "rougher around the edges", which makes him even harder core than Nate.

Anyway, we're planning a long bike ride from the Jaqua [hazelnut] farm on the McKenzie, in NE Eugene (Springfield), all the way to Crescent Lake, which is just south of the Waldo start! It'll be 100 miles, and all uphill.

We've been trying to get together to get a ride in to train for this damn thing, and today we finally did. It was a pain to drive out there, but I knew this was a key first step, so we did it.

Super-thankful that Josh borrowed an actual bike from "his neighbor" (of last name, Bowerman), which was clutch, because by doing so, he easily kept up with us.

We did a nice, big loop, east a bit, before heading south through Springfield to the Willamette, and following that all the way into Eugene, then north back to their place.

CA did most of the leading. I'm still feeling a little haggard, so having her to draft was nice, especially in some windy segments (also, for my ego: her bike is by far the lightest).

Rode for a good 95 minutes. Super-enjoyable. And I actually felt strong at the end! It truly was the most athletic (strong & confident) I've felt in months.

Josh did really great; hung right in there!

Post-ride: we didn't dawdle too much. We changed and packed up, then headed for brunch! Had a great one at Sundial (an actually good gluten-free place), then home...where I napped for like 3 HOURS! Oops!

PM: lifted weights, then home. Went for a walk at night, which was nice.

Good energy today.

Sleep: pretty good (but our bed is seemingly too stiff, still)
Gut: solid
Energy: good!
