Boiling hot (and exhausting) Minneapolis run

May 25, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 90s? Humid

Comments:
Pretty smooth flying today: SLEPT in the van in the PDX parking lot. We slept OK, but the planes overhead were loud.

TSE PRE is fucking awesome. Got through in like 3 minutes! Grabbed a coffee and had smooth flight to MSP. Didn't do any work on the flight.

Got there around 11:30 and went straight to St. Thomas U to meet Michelle, my coaching client from Minneapolis. We worked on stride stuff and talked generalities about training and life for about an hour. Part of me wanted to get a little more "real" with her: she's been REALLY struggling with what I think is adrenal fatigue and a myriad of crazy physical symptoms. But with Callie there, and fatigue, and not wanting to upset her...I let it go.

After the session, Callie and I ran from St. Thomas, which sits at the mile 22 point of the Twin Cities Marathon course, and my old stomping grounds from undergrad and grad school.

I thought that would energize this run, but I felt like ASS. It was really hot, I had some gut rot (and deuced along the high riverbanks above the Mississippi), and my legs and body felt like SHIT. It was a real struggle, and once again, depressing. It's demoralizing when, after only 3-4 miles, your body feels like "hundred-mile bonk"!

After the run:

* drove (slowly) to Stillwater, en route to my sister's
* had "lunch" at a co-op grocery, then realized we wouldn't have time to go to Brandie's
* drove (slowly) to River Falls
* "showered" by jumping into the Best Western pool and changing in their bathrooms
* went to the pub (in the hotel) for my mom's surprise 60th birthday party

It was a pretty solid party: at least 6-8 HIGH SCHOOL classmates came down (3hr drive), along with her BFF Chris (who's been to WSER x2 or 3 for me), and all the siblings, which was nice. She was super-surprised and appreciative.

Didn't eat, but had two full beers, which might've been a mistake.

In general:

* Sleep: not great
* Energy: not great / poor
& Gut: OK
