Up early to drive through the park out to Field, BC for our fossil hike. I was up and ready to go because of the time change still. Driving through the park was pretty cool, the mountains are just huge, majestic. Pictures do not do it justice at all, and its hard to describe. Quite a drive out but its so smooth and easy driving. We readied up for our 8hr accent to the fossil fields. It was tough, some sections were straight climbs, and the rest was roots and rocks all over. The sun wasnt too bad and the wind was nice in cooling us down, but it was a trek. Once we finally got up there, the fossils were impressive. Literally, there were fossils everywhere you looked. Crack open a rock, probably find a fossil. It was kinda overwhelming. I wanted to take in the view, as we were almost half way up one of the big mountains, at maybe 7000 or 8000 ft elevation. I could see rain clouds coming in as well, which was interesting but scary. Took us a long time to get down, we were all beat and tired. I had to run back and forth a few times, and at that point I could feel the efforts of the day. We only hiked 6 miles, but it was 1/2 elevation change over 3 miles which is crazy steep. This was definitely a rigorous climb, but worth it to see the views and the fossils. Drive back was nice and easy, through some intense rain. I am sure we were all relieved to get back and rest after dinner in Canmore. Time change still hitting hard, not to mention my quads and ankles feel fried out from the strength motions on the climb.
