Hardesty Up-Down with CA!

July 1, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 70s, "hot" and humid

Comments:
Slept IN today, 'til like 11! Nuts! I didn't know I could do that. I was super-tired yesterday, but in general, I haven't been able to truly sleep in for months. I woke once around 7ish, then not again 'til 11! It shocked even CA.

We didn't waste too much time, but it wasn't til after noon that we headed for an ambitious plan to run a Hardesty Loop: 18 miles, 4.5k' vert. I guess we're feeling confident based on our Juneau runs.

But once we got running, it was pretty clear within a mile that it was going to be a tough day. The plan was to go super-slow, which we did, but it wasn't easy. CA was wearing a new hydration pack that was too tight, so she was miserable for the first two miles. I was just tired, then got better...then got tired again as we got to the summit.

Our split: 80:0x! Yikes! It's probably the second-slowest ever (I straight-hiked it once in 3/2015 in low 80s).

The descent wasn't a ton better. My legs were pretty trashed and CA put about 3 minutes on me. I ran 45:0x.

Yeesh. Oh well, gotta start somewhere.

PM: even with only an up-down, we didn't get back to town til 4, so we ate at Sun Dial Cafe, then went home...and cranked on wedding invites for like 4 hours! Gross! Late dinner.
