Exercise Type: Walk
Comments:
Plan was to head up towards Jasper and get up into the icefields. The drive was almost 3 hrs up, so we couldnt do the whole thing, so we just went as far north as we could. Got out early to beat crowds, stopping at Bow Summit first. Bow Lake and Peyto lake are still in the valley, but its much narrower. Thats the start of the Bow river. Short little hike to the overlook for Peyto, which is really nice. An even more interesting shade of blue, unique and pretty. Most people stopped off there and did not continue the climb up to the Summit. Its so worth it. You shoot straight up through the tree line to the glacier and an awesome overlook view of the whole valley. Not as strenuous as Burgess Shale, so that was welcoming. It got snowy up there, but it wasnt too cold. More people started to make there way up on our way back down, and the parking lot was crazy when we returned. Bow Lake was a little to crowded, so we headed north a little further to Waterfowl lakes for one more little hike. The rain was coming, but it was still pretty spectacular to see all the mountains on the edge of the lakes. We had quite a drive back afterwards and we were getting sleepy. Solid hike to wrap it up in Banff. You get so used to the mountains just being there, they seem so normal after a while.
