Comments:
Picked up right where we left off from Tuesday. We were still in it. Weather was beautiful, sunny summer evening. Only problem was the field was soaked, especially outfield. There were some serious puddles I had to navigate in center. Started off with a nice fly ball, even ended an inning on a jump catch over my head. We just had solid plays overall and we were playing to their ability. Really it was neck and neck till the 5th when they went up on us. I had a bad hit and rolled by ankle sliding for a ball that dropped into a puddle. Made it out of the inning but ankle was tight to run on. So glad I had my brace in the car. Sat out one, strapped that on, then went back in for the final inning. We mostly held them, I got another really nice flyball. Coming off the field, realized that might be my last time in the outfield as a Renegade or as a Amherst LSSE league member... Didnt hit me since we were rallying, only down 5 runs or so. Kept it going, and I came back up to bat. I feel like this happens a lot, get into the clutch and I am up. I wanted to redeem myself from the previous at bat, just swing through solid timing and make contact. Waited for a few pitches, then just let it rip. Huge contact went way out to left, just out of reach of the center fielder. I knew it was the sweet spot as soon as I contacted. Stand up double a few runs scored. Just the hit I needed. Arnab was up after he and he always hits big. I think we had 2 outs so I just went for it. Had plenty of time but slid face first into home in my last trip around the bases. We actually kept it going a little longer, but ended up falling just short 2 runs. In the end, I cant believe it was that well played and that close, considering we have lost by over 20 to this team before. The playoffs is when we pull together and play smart, efficient and smooth. Real proud of the team effort, and really grateful for having a solid squad to play with all these years. We sucked so much my first few years, lots of people quit, but I kept at it, kept playing, and slowly rose up the leaderboards. We did way better than we did last season I think, and we earned it. Softball was a big part of the grad school experience, I think it really helped me get through some tough parts. Thankful for that. Now I can finally wash my jersey, it has some hard earned grit thats really sunk into the fabric. That means a lot. To the Renegades!
