Yachats - Cape Perpetua Visitor Center out and back

December 29, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50, but down to maybe 40F and rain/wind

Comments:
Big day. Slept in more than desired, so we got a later start.

I've been feeling good this week, and I had a good feeling about the day. CA was going to do the big loop: Cummins Ridge + the backroads + Cummins Creek trails. I dropped her off, drove back to the visitor center, then hiked up the trail in her direction. The idea was to hike up the outbound, then run back down.

Put on a Tim Ferriss podcast (good episode about a single guy who started his own business after reading "4-hour work week"), and hiked up into the trees. The rain immediately started but the fine mist wasn't bad at all under the trees.

Felt pretty good! Very little heel and ankle stiffness, despite the relentless uphill. I even ran some downhills, really working on medial arch engagement.

Hit the gravel road at 3.7 miles, then kept going up. Lots of downed timber for a big wind event, and saw some locals cutting (and harvesting) downed timber off the road. At 6.2 miles, there came CA! We turned around and ran back.

I felt amazingly good: effort wasn't too bad, legs felt decent and feet were pretty great!

It's been a long time (and very infrequently this year) since I've felt this good. It was really fun.

Rest of the day:
* brunch
* nap!
* Brent and Erika came from Eugene to hang out

Good day, and farthest run in months!
