Hillish

January 29, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 30's; Snow

Comments:
I started out on 42nd street into AU Park, going down Warren to 44th to Verplanck for my first hill, though it was a weak-sauce hill. I then continued the pace to Van Ness to 45th, where I soon began my second pickup up Upton to Tindall, then heading down for my third up Sedgewick, down for my fourth up Springdale. I then went to Van Ness, where I did a longer pickup until 42nd. For the all these hills, I made sure to crest at the top and not slow down but just to incorporate them into the run. When I got home, I did pushups, pushup progression, and crunch progression.

Although it felt nice to get out today, it was my first workout in weeks and I thus felt kind of slow and sluggish, all around 'bleh'. I struggled up most of the hills, finding it difficult to tap in easily to muscle memory. I couldn't quite hit my stride and just found it difficult both physically and mentally. However, it's these moments that are the most important in running. It's not the PR's and great successes, it's the grueling, cold, hard runs that really make a career. I wouldn't call today a breakthrough or a rude awakening, but I certainly made progress in my gradual return to normalcy.
