Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Was in the 7th heat with Oscar. A lot hotter today than it has been, but I know we'll be begging for beautiful days like today in a couple of months. Having never run one of these before, I decided to just sit back and let the pack take me, letting the adrenaline do the work during the first 300 and then run a 1200. Was nice and tucked in for as long as I was with the pack, which was most of the race. Did a much better job than I think I have been working off other people, and between running in the quarry and running in that pack, I faced virtually no wind resistance throughout the race. I was planning to go with 400 left, but I figured I should just kick sooner so I wouldn't have to pass going into the curve or pass going out of it which would be too late. I passed pretty much all of the pack with about 450 meters to go and kicked it in in about 70 seconds I think–by far one of the best kicks I've ever had in a race. I just didn't have that kind of endurance in high school. I feel like I'm so so much stronger than I was a year ago.
Afterward, we ran to Swat and back which was a lot of fun but doing 8 miles in that heat after a race was exhausting. If you're into conversions, this would be about a 7 second mile PR for me. I don't feel like that's really sunk in yet, but I haven't shaved that much time off of my mile since freshman year of high school. I loved running on Widener's track–can't wait to be back and put in some good work over the rest of this season.
