April 6, 2019 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Long day in the sun waiting for the 800. Felt pretty faint during warmups even though I was well hydrated–I probably didn't eat as well as I could have leading up.
Forgetting about all of that, I had a terrible race. Not one that I want to forget–because I want to learn from it–but one that I need to let go of in order to move on and succeed for the rest of this season. I know I have the fitness now to run a great 800, and I want to so badly. I mentally locked up, and then physically too, on the line, and completely lost the pack in the first 100-200 meters. I ran even, but I could've run a 68 for the second lap after doing a 64 for the first lap, which I just didn't. I need to focus on GETTING OUT HARD (putting this in all caps to remind myself to next time I race the 8). I felt like I could race another 800 at the same pace afterward, which means I ran a horrible race. Good cooldown with Matt Katz on the trails out there afterwards.
