Olympic Peninsula - Hurricane Ridge hike

June 22, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Walk

Weather: 60s, nice

Comments:
Oh, here's a fun fact: we forgot our damn passports! We were supposed to go to Victoria, BC, via the ferry, but on Friday night we both realized neither one of us grabbed the passports!

We were really mad and embarrassed - as we essentially ruined the trip for the whole group - but in the end, it was probably a better deal, as we stayed in nature for another day.

Slept in (our only sleep-in!) until 8:30, then made breakfast, and finally got out to do something around 10:30. We first drove to Port Angeles to walk around, then we drove up to Hurricane Hill.

The NPS entrance to this corridor of Olympics NP is essentially on the edge of town, and on an impressive 20-mile(!) road climb! Even in my fatigue, I was impressed and intrigued by this climb, as we saw tons of cyclists coming down.

Drove up, walked around a bit, then decided to do to hike to Hurricane Ridge. Long but beautiful 4+ mile hike with about 1000' of gain - plenty of activity for me today! Fun to go up and down with the whole family. Beautiful, open views of the entire park, and with full views across the Straight, to Canada!

Rest of day:
* back down to PA for a really medicore, over-priced "microbrew"
* grocery shopping
* home for another feast: steaks!

Good day.
