PDX: Beaverton/Barnes Rd classic loop (plus)

July 13, 2019 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70s, cooler but humid

Comments:
NO run this morning: Just sick of being so stiff in the morning with the ankles, so I slept in.

GOOD and extremely insightful learning today. For me, specifically:

1. Leg length differential. We've pretty much confirmed it: long on the right, AND - more importantly - that functionally I'm better with about 3-4mm of insert under my left foot (FULL insert).

2. HIP IR LOSS. A key part of my "Rogering" (toe out in push-off) is a major IR loss in my hips. We did some specific treatments of it, and I spent a lot of time today, stretching both EXT & IR together. I can feel it both at the hips AND the lower leg and ankle.

3. NERVE TENSION. Gregg found not only a ton of nerve tension in my body, but that it's also tied to L5-S1 (won't extend OR flex!)

Emily treated out some of it, but once class was out at 7:30, I went back to the van, did some specific nerve mobs (laying on the tennis balls at L5-sacrum) with either leg, isolating in the opposite of my trunk shift (trunk R, Rot L) and hip IR. Cool thing was, it got more flexible!

So at 7:45 or so, I went for a short run.

It felt...amazingly weird. SO LIGHT. Like my legs were filled with helium! Felt "out of body" -- both easy, but so light, like I was hovering!

Ran down, past the new shopping center (stopping to deuce at Market of Choice), then came back via the trails. (Found some super-loud bullfrogs in a swamp pond!).

Even the uphill grind felt better (like 8:30 for that pure uphill mile!

Good day! PROMISING.

Rest of the day:
* to MOC to spend money for the first time since Thursday AM: got more sandwich supplies
* back to Residence Inn, had a couple beers, ate, and went to bed!
