A Rennert Surprise

Slept in this morning. Ahhh. Ran down the tow path along the canal and ran into Aaron Rennert as he was running home from work right at Chain Bridge which is about 20 minutes from my house. Ran to his house with him on some wacky VA trail that I had never been on, we bushwhacked, and then I ran home. Good to catch up with Aaron and a pleasant surprise to have company. I was feeling pretty crappy until I ran into him even though I hydrated really well today. Apparently not well enough.

I kid you not, on the way back I saw a wild presentation of nature along the canal. First, some big white birds with fish in their mouths. Then I saw a ton of air bubbles in the shallower part of the canal so I stopped and peered in. The bubbles were coming from about two dozen little turtles! I didn't know anything could possibly live in that gross canal, especially since so much of it has dried up, let alone baby turtles. After the turtles, there was a HUGE fish that was nearly three feet long from what I could tell. Overall, a crappy run that turned into an awesome one!
