Hardesty Up/Down solo

August 2, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 60s, YUUMID

Comments:
Slept OK, but awoke to some scrape-y noises-- like someone was moving a garbage bin in the driveway. I got up, and saw a billion turkeys in the yard, so it's possible a goddamn turkey was on the roof doing shit. I shot at them and they scurried their fat asses away.

Tried to go back to sleep, but couldn't. Got up at 6:30, did some AM mobility and prepped for Hardesty. Drove out there solo (due to CA's ongoing calf) and launched for the run by 8:10.

Solid run. Worked on the "reaching" stride lengtheing on the uphills, and overall forward posture. I could feel some quirks:

* I think my back was a little off. It was tough to load the right hip, and I felt like the left scap wasn't doing its job

* the ankles...sucked. The left one, at least. I need to work/free up the lateral tissues, again. (I did this really well, but only on the right, a few months ago).

Wasn't sure how fast I'd go, but the results were - like all things this training block - solid-but-unspectacular:

Up: 65:27
Down: 40:50

I sat up on the summit, DRENCHED in sweat (my hat was dripping from the brim!!), working my lateral shins, before heading back down.

On the down, I had two focus areas:

1. Good form (hip hinge, "drop the tailbone"/vag up)
2. RELAX

Tried my best to sustainably run fast downhill, as relaxed as can be. As such, I didn't push too much out of the comfort zone. Would've been nice to break 40.

Solid. For reference, I ran 68/38 15 days before the 2014 race.

Rest of the day:
* drove to Washburne Cafe to dine with CA, who met me there on bike
* had a great feast, then studied! (She quizzed me off my notes)
* home to pack, study more

Two random notes:

1. The full-length, plastic-y inserts in my left shoe seem to be working OK. But my left foot is oddly more sore.

2. My right calf (same soleus issue as CA, but less severe) acted up a BIT near the top and on the way down, but was OK.
