OFF DAY.
Up early to fly to Denver. Smooth travel to DEN, then we drove up to Loveland, then west through Rocky Mountain National Park.
Ate breakfast at a good place in Loveland, but had WAY too much butter (I'd pay for it). From there, we drove through RMNP. Lots of people, super-busy.
Beautiful super-high alpine area (road goes to 12k'). Both of us were pretty tired so we barely did any walking around.
The *idea* was to camp tonight. In fact, we packed TWO full bags of camp gear, just for this one night...
...but we could not find a single open campsite, or any dispersed site, open. We spent all afternoon driving west, going off the highway to drive to CG's. Nothing.
Finally, at nearly 8PM, we rolled into little Kremmling, CO - which I'd looked into, before we decided to camp - which is about 55 miles south of Steamboat (which was also nearly booked out and expensive). Got a place at this old "historic" hotel. It was quaint...but no AC!
Had beers and a snack in our tiny room, then went to a brew pub and ate a BBQ dinner late, before going to bed.
Pretty good day...but long, tiring, and HOT! Wish we were camping up high, in the cool, but we didn't prepare.
