September 1, 2019 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 60? Nice
Comments:
Slept in a bit on a random forest road, then drove down to Glacier, got a decent coffee, then found a random forest service road that *seemed* to climb up to pretty near the actual Mt Baker, so we drove up that.
About 9 miles and a half-hour uphill, we hit the trailhead. It was "Oregon busy", which is to asy it wasn't bad at all.
My ankles were shockingly "OK" from yesterday. I was still anxious about my energy, so I told CA I'd do this 2.5-mile trail that went up to a glaicer if we kept it real easy.
We hiked most of the pretty steep and rugged trail, crossing a couple easy rocky streams 'til we got to a BIG one. But after watdching a few people cross in ankle-deep water without support, we did it and had no isssues...other than the water being SO GODDAMN COLD, it might've been the coldest water I've ever felt!
A mile later...the trail popped out to this amazing glacier (or as I was saying all weekend, "Glah-CEE-AYY")! We did some more scrambling, as we were merely at 5500' and there was a long ways to Baker's summit at 10K, but we didn't go much higher. Hung out up there, then shuffle-ran down.
Felt GOOD! This is the best the ankles have felt after a long trail run in...years? Multiple years?
Post-run:
* drove up another mile to a picnic area to eat "brunch"
* took a long-ass nap, til nearly 5!!
* showered outside the van
* drove to Bellingham
Connor and Alice were running late, so it was just us at Aslan, 'til pretty late, then retired to Lake Padden for the night.
Good day!
