November 5, 2019 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 80, humid
Comments:
After breakfast (which I skipped), we went on another run. Unlike previous years where the camp was hyper-structured (ala high school) with hourly classes at different locations, this year we had BIG chunks of time to go out and run/explore.
Our mid-morning run was a return to the west side. This time, rather than do the double loop, we first did a big perimeter half-loop before stopping at the aid station. Once there we had a long talk about AS strategy and nutrition before carrying on.
The group was already splintering a bit: some folks were pretty worked (and hot - AND we had an afternoon run, upcoming, too!), so a few folks went straight back. The remainder of us rolled downhill to toward the south end of camp. A mile later, I took another 4-some on a new trail back toward camp, while Paul and Pam took a few brave souls on an extra mile out and back.
Myself and four guys -- all marines, ranging from late 20s to mid 50s -- rolled this sweet singletrack MTB trail back up toward the bluff, then down the hill.
And, since I was their civilian leader, I led them to also "accidentally fall in" to the Blue Hole at the end. Felt AWESOME.
Great run, and really good to spend time with a group, AND get to know this smaller group, too.
Ankles not too bad!
