"Wolf Creek Loop" ride with Albert + Turkey plucking!

November 23, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 30s, COLD - "freezing fog" --> sun

Comments:
Up early. Courtney and Bert got in late last night, but in time for Bert and I to ride before our "turkey-plucking" outing.

We did a new loop today, that I heard about from a client:

* the usual southwest route to Lorane
* instead of back east toward CG, you go west, toward the coast
* then turn north on "Wolf Creek Rd", which climbs up and over from the Siuslaw drainage back to Territorial

Cool thing is this loop finished right at the farm where we got our turkey.

SUPER-COLD to start: variable heavy fog and right at freezing temp for nearly the first half, then it slowly burned off.

The usual hills in the first half, then really nice, rolling flat and smooth -- car-less -- Siuslaw River Road to Wolf Creek, where we did a substantial climb.

Bert didn't push very hard, so I was able to hang with him (/pull off him) nearly the whole time.

Once we summited Wolf Creek we got a nice shitburger surprise: road construction and a detour...

...down a gravel road!

Fucking hell. Good news is I didn't flat, but we rattled at maybe 6mph down this white-knuckle descent. The worst part was my hands: they got so tired from clenching the brakes!

Thankfully it only lasted less than two miles before we got back on the highway. From there it was 5 mostly flat (if not slighly up) miles before an awesome bomber down to Territorial.

A homestretch five-miler got us to the farm, but not after Bert threw in 5x 30 "sprints". I didn't keep up, but I did'em along with him.

Rest of the day:
* met at this farm to harvest our own turkey!
* other than kill it and eviscerate it, we "did it all": pick it out, dunk the dead bird in near-boiling water, and pluck the feathers

Pretty cool "real farm" experience and something a lot of people go to do. On top of that, I got to trade a PT visit/treatment for our 15-lb bird!

Fun day!

Rest of the day:
* went to Brent's new place out in the country, where he's building trail on 40 acres of wooded land
* home
* went to Highlands to watch the Ducks blow their playoff chances
* home
