Aufderheide Road (North end O&B)

May 23, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 60s-70, nice (then chilly up high)

Comments:
Up early to prep, but it took a while to get all our shit together. Once I did a bit of work, we left around noon.

Drove up the McKenzie to FS 19 - the Aufderheide Scenic Highway that connects the McKenzie to the Willamette in Oakridge. It's a 60 mile road that we've always wanted to through-ride. But without a ride (or willingess to double that O&B), we road from the north.

We first parked at the Delta Campground (between a couple branches of the McKenzie River) and found a decent campsite for the night. Then, finally, around 2:30, we pushed off.

Good, but hard ride: net uphill as this road rolls over the divide between the two big rivers, but there were lots of "shitburger" rollers! Interesting on the way out, then hard on the way back!

The river and reservoir was pretty nice, as were the big trees near the top. Nice weather, too.

Took maybe 1h40m to go outbound, then not much over an hour to come back. The ups on the way back were TOUGH!

Fun ride, though.

PM: camped, cooked and made a fire at the CG. Skiing tomorrow!
