July 29, 2020 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Bike
Weather: mis 90s, HOT
Comments:
Rode from the house after work to do a bike & plunge.
I rode solo to SEHS to run first (see previous), then CA met me.
Man, it's a HUGE difference running (on a blazing artificial surface) vs biking with a lot of shade and breeze!
Rode medium-effort into Alton Baker. Did our first plunge at the AB boat launch (2-mile mark of the 5K TT loop), then carried on.
Rode all the way to SPFD and Island Park, but there were a lot of people everywhere and no good jump-in spots. So we rode back...and I found the "Old Tyme" rope swing spot along the PRE path!
Back 20+ years ago, there used to be a rope swing along the river, beside the bike path, about a half-mile downriver from the Knickerbocker Bridge. I remember, in '99, on super-hot days such as these, swinging into the river for plunge!
The rope is long-gone (possibly because the river is pretty shallow unless you get way out there), and the pathway - which used to be well-marked and encouraged - is nearly completely grown-over.
Stopped there and jumped in. Good spot!
Rest of the ride:
* easy-medium back home
Fun night!
