Mt Hood Climb - Zig Zag to Timberline!

August 7, 2020 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: 80s - high 60s, HOT

Comments:
Awesome ride.

Inspired by Emily's toughness, I NEEDED to do something hard. Drove to the usual grocery stop in Zig Zag and unloaded there. CA drove to Timberline and I biked.

Interesting route:

* 41xx' climb
* ZERO FEET OF DESCENT!

First 5-6 miles was mellow climbing, then we began to roll up the shoulder of Hood. It was still on the main highway, so it was nothing gnarly, but hard work.

Got a little break at Government Camp, then once I turned off to Timberline, it was legit 7-9% climbing for close to 6 miles.

GOOD PUSH! 41xx' is the most I've climbed in one burst since maybe Beartooths in '10?

FUN!

Rest of the day:
* CA got a hold of Ian and we decided to roll south to Timothy Lake (about 30min drive south of Timberline) to set up an AS for Emily
* set up with a bunch of her non-ultra friends (some Eugenians, some not) and Ian. Made food their
* Emily and her (former Eugene resident) ultra-friend Ian came rolling in in good spirits. I worked on Emily's shin, she ate, then they took off!
* We drove up to a sno-park about 12mi toward Hood. CA and I didn't stay up for her arrival; we slept in the back of the parking lot instead.

Fun day!
