Spanish Banks Tempo

April 16, 2022 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I caught up on sleep today. Took it easy this morning. Lots of early days last week. Even had to take a nap before heading out. Knew I wanted to get a little uptempo in today trying to prepare for the Sun Run. It was nice and sunny, but still on the chilly side especially with the wind whipping. I went down to Jericho/Spanish Banks to keep the tempo flat. Lots of people out there, even an Easter egg hunt or run? I was confused. Started right at Locarno Beach and headed down Spanish Banks into the wind. I think pace was fine starting out there was another runner ahead of me that I passed and tried to keep behind me. Wind wasn't all that bad I really tried to keep up with it. Made it all the way down a little bit before 10 mins, the path went by really quickly since I knew where I was going and there were a lot of people and action down there. Coming back I got the wind with me, and totally expected to negative split even though there were spots where I could feel the pace fall off. Not good for a tempo its important to hold the consistency. Running with the wind felt good, and I had 1min+ when I got back to the start spot and kept going all the way to the round about infront of the sailing center. I now realize that its exactly 1.5 miles from Locarno to the end of Spanish Banks, so with my addition, its a 5k exactly, and I definitely covered that in sub 20 which I think is a pretty good benchmark right now. I would be super stoked to do that again for a sub 40 10k. Especially considering that was tempo pace. HR was still like 120 after I walked a little bit, so that may actually be a slow tempo pace for me at this point. Can still feel the struggle come from my strength and core, not from my fitness. Walked it off a little bit before heading back comfortably down Jericho and back up WPGA and Crown. Wind hit me again on the way back. Good progression from the tempo last week which felt a lot harder.

Essentials: Stretch, roll

I walked it off a little bit more when I got back before coming in to stretch. I think my ITs were a bit tight after so I rolled those out as well. Legs do not feel thrashed or anything afterwards. Great. Again, cross training is keeping me in a decent spot but I wish I had that little extra time or opportunity to do some more training. I think I could be back into decent shape. More and more excited to test it out next weekend.
