Ridgeline: Baldy, Spencer to Blanton and reverse

August 7, 2022 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60-80F

Comments:
Weird dud of a long run, again.

Was pretty tired going in, from three days of heavy clinic work, and the fatigue and soreness from the otherwise great hill workout Thursday. And because I was working late on my damn iRF videos, I didn'get to bed until late.

So not a great start.

Did very little body prep work before driving downt to Martin St to begin my Eugene long run.

Plan A was to run on the Waldo course, but there are multiple fires burning in the Oregon cascades, including one 4 miles west of Waldo Lake. These fire are swirling smoke all over the area. So that was out.

Plan B: drive to the coast. That would've been nice, but a 4-hour round trip drive was too much .

(Plan AB would've been Hardesty, but it neither felt like it would be smoke-free, or applicable enough)

So, I ran Ridgeline, planning on a double yo-yo of the east-west trail, with some summits.

Started out...heavy. And it, unfortunately, didn't get better.

What I think happens:
• I have a fuckton of nerve tension
• even regular (efficient) running, especially if hard and/or novel, will increase that tension, namely around the sciatic (glutes/piriformis, hamstrings, calves)

So, Thursday's hill sprints (and fast downhill) was GREAT (though stiff on the long cool-down). Friday felt good too. But then, DOMS set in. Saturday was stiffer.

And today was the worst.

Tried to do 100-mile (altitude pacing): fast-hiking anything >5-7% grade, and easy running the flats. I was so stiff, however, that I couldn't really assertively run the downs.

After Baldy and Spencer #1, I made it to Blanton TH, pounded the Gatorade I stashed, but resigned myself that I'd only do the (18-mile) out and back. Even then, that was tough. Just so stiff and heavy!

Thought about two miles on the flat to round out to 20, but I was just too stiff and heavy. Frustrating, but I hope I can fix it!

Rest of the day:
* Hideaway brunch #1
* home for brunch #2
* nap
* yard/housework
* PM "Pub night" with the Kleins and David

(PM: Got the word that Jules broke up with Zack!! Still "Taking it slow", but this is a huge - and potentially life-changing - development!)
