Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Had to get up early this morning and get ready to race. Nice I could just roll out and get ready. Picked up my packet then did a little loop around to shake out, warm up and do some striders. Wasn't sure how it was gonna go since I have done no speed and core, just going of mileage and mile effort. I have not worn my flats in a long long time and wanted to run them out. Cant race in trainers anymore, slip around too much. They felt ok and I am glad I have them. Did a few striders down Edwards beforehand and then headed into the scrum. Found Jordan and the start and he had the pace set which was great. Feeling fine but it was humid in the morning and it could get sticky. Gun went off and we started out fine down Erie, pace felt really good. I wanted to keep it at 6:30 and was pretty close through 2 miles. Jordan dropped back a little on the hills and I eventually caught up to my neighbor and ran with her for a little bit. She was on pace as well until we got into the third mile, which went down Wasson and Marburg and up Erie. That sucked, and my pace started to fall off a lot. Core was weak and the hill was tough I did not feel good and the lack of strength started to show. I made it through in under 20 and then tried to gut out what I could on the last mile which was all straight down Erie. I must have gotten back on a bit because the end was pushed but I could tell that middle mile was hard. A 4miler is a weird race too to gauge. Overall, HR was tempoish at the end, which shows what shape I am in but how much I need to do to get to efficient racing form. I was also soaked afterwards. The humidity caught up and it was dank. We found Andres and he was joining some Cincy Elite runners for a run afterwards, so we went down Wasson and back around Withrow to finish up the nice cool down. I was also struggling there because I drank a lot of fluids but it was certainly good for my legs to cool down.
Essentials: Stretch
Stretched a little after walking around, then took me a while to wander back home and clean up. Tired out for sure from an effort I usually dont put in. But that racing feeling is fun and takes on a new meaning for me these days. I can see some build up and training to get back there at least.
