1.6x Black Butte

September 2, 2023 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s - 70s

Comments:
Slept in a bit, then got my shit together to get out for a run. Was undecided on what to do, but misplacing my filter bottle made a double Black Butte more appealing.

Crazy that the lower BB TH is maybe a 15 minute drive (10 miles?) from the home. Took my poles, but no water or fuel (no pack, no bottle), intending only to refuel at the truck.

Hiked 90% of the climb. The 3/4 mile is real mellow and 90% runnable, then it's "100-mile hike grade" the whole rest of the way.

Felt strong and efficient with the ski poles. Nonetheless, it still took 82ish minutes to go 5.0x mlies. Did a true summit for the first time ever, going to the northwest end to the lookout platform. Hung there a bit then descended.

The descent was slow: technical (and Fish Creek-like) in the upper mile, then definite cruiser on the "lower" 3 miles back to the truck.

By then I felt pretty dried out and it was getting warmer. I pounded a liter of water, ate a banana, then grabbed two gels and started off again.

Felt good...but worn. By 2.5 miles, I was feeling borderline bonky. So when I got to the upper TH, I stopped, took both my Canaberries...and decided to turn back. Didn't want to dig too deep of a hole, or have a bad mental experience.

GREAT run, though. So encouraged!

Last Saturday's work was clutch...and my awareness, mild stretch work, and pole use has MAINTAINED those ROM and alignment gains!

Rest of the day:

• brunch with Thomas
• short nap
• more working on him
• more beers and food at The Barn.
• after beers "deep(ish relationship) chats" at home

Good day.
