But 70 degrees and sunny inside.

Jogged a quick mile before making myself breakfast and packing up for the day. 2.5 hr drive to Allendale, then quick recon half-mile jog. Milled around until it was time to warm up for the mile, which went OK. Sad to admit that I did NOT know the track was 300m. I got out fast, no clue on lap splits but def negged. Goal going into it was anything at or under 5. Competition was super spread out, and I think under better circumstances and with more speed on my legs I can def get under 4:50, maybe eek closer to 4:45. But I was happy with the distance I put between me and 5. Cooldown jog, then read and did some busy work for a few hours, draining lactic acid, then it was time to warm up for 3k. Goal was anything under 10, but when we got started, it was clear that even the slowest heat of the race, at the very end of the day, was gonna be competitive. Started off conservative, hitting a few 60 second flat or below laps, then I started to race with more of a chip on my shoulder and pass people liberally. 1500 at around 4:55, then at around 1800 (6 laps) I heard the announcer say something about the pack of 6 at front was “in contention.” That didn’t sit right with me. I felt like I had to prove him wrong, so I went for it. Hard last 2 laps, kicking hard to place 3rd in the heat, in 9:32. I did the math, if I had kicked like I did for a 2 mile, I would easily have beaten my PR from Senior year of HS. Good race, good meet, looking forward to this season. Left knee feels a bit beat up though, shorter tmrw then OFF Sunday. Body needs it. Quick cooldown and drive home!
