Oregon Marathon Relay

April 11, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 40s, very humid, blah w/ocassional sun streaks

Comments:
Was DREADING this run: didn't sleep much and woke up TIRED. The plan was do to a bunch of pace today, but my back/leg was garbagey the last couple days. On top of that, the tiredness (in both legs and life) demotivated me greatly for this.

However, I promised Jeff I'd do this, like 2 months ago, so whatever. :|

Showed up to the race at 0650 and did a long warm up of 6 miles (was gonna do 10). Did NO pace work beforehand. Just did the 10K.

The loop was the classic Alton Baker/Southbank trail. Not very fast by virtue of many tight turns. On top of that, the rocky concrete was wet again, and I was slipping in the flats.

Rookie mistake: my watch wasn't on chrono when the race started, so I didn't start my watch. Did not get the 1st mile, but I started it <4s after the mile.

Felt pretty chill the first 5K, which was 17:10. Pretty solid time considering the course. JUST before the 5K I grabbed a gel from the back pocket and took it...and about a 1/4 of it went trachea-bound. Spent the next MILE coughing it, 'til I got water at the 4mi -- of which about a 1/4 of that went in my nose. F. I suck at fueling.

Was NOT happy with my 4th mile split, since I was concertedly running harder. 5th wasn't great either, but my last mile was solid.

Overall it was easy but not as "effortless" as last week. Thought about adding on some more pace, but it would've been stupid. Instead I did a long cooldown while Jeff and Matt ran their legs.

The damages (approx):

?
5:30-low
5:20-high
--17:10

5:30-low
5:30-low
5:22
--16:55
Total: 34:05.

Pretty blah day. NOT worth $18, especially since I was ALL ALONE the entire time. :| I'm still happy, though, because 5:30s are still feeling "easy", which continues to amuse and amaze.
