Boise, ID -- Fairview Ave run

August 21, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60s, dry and breezy

Comments:
Had a really nice drive from Eugene to Boise. It was especially picturesque driving the eastern Oregon mountains during the evening, as the sun set in the west. There was very little traffic and I really moved along US20.

I approached Boise at sundown. Per usual, the car ran pretty loud because of the snow tires, but as I got close to Boise it got worse, to the point that by the time I rolled into town, the car was shaking badly enough that the change in my change holder was vibrating like a rattle. I was worried but put it out of mind as I got to Flying Pie, thus ending a three month wait for amazing pizza and beer! I hadn't eaten a meal since my going-away breakfast at 0730, so the "PHOSGO Supreme" and "Triple Pie" were amazing, as were the whole wheat breadsticks. Meeting me there were my classmate Britt and her roommate Tami. After pizza and brew we headed back to Tami's for the night.

I woke up at 0630 and started looking into auto repair places. I wasn't going to drive another 1500 miles with my car in that condition. I called a Firestone five miles away and dropped my car off there at 0745. From there, I ran a round-about way back to the house, totalling 8 miles.

I felt really trashed out; not sure if it was from the driving, but it felt like my shoes were just DEAD. My quads were trashed, feet, and even my shins a bit. Beyond that, this route was pure concrete along a busy "main artery" going into Boise, so it pretty much sucked.

After getting back to the house, I got a call from the repair shop telling me that both my rear tires were "separating", or in other words, were bulging at the treads and near blowing out. Long story short, I wound up buying 4 new "regular" tires. This was a relief, as it wasn't a mechanical problem. Plus I needed these tires, anyway, so no big deal.

I finally got on the road at noon in a vastly quieter ride! With a quieter, smoother ride, I hauled ass to Billings, getting there by 2030. The drive was terrific, which featured a route that went through West Yellowstone, MT, and actually entered parts of the park.

Got to Billings and went to BWW with Kirby for a beer. Compared to good Oregon microbrew (which I got to drink at Flying Pie), the crap they had there was tough to stomach. But overall it was as good to see Kirbs and it was Britt the night before.

Got to bed by 1030. Good day, all things considered.
