September 6, 2008 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: warm
Comments:
I ran a 6k at West park in Nampa. It went really good considering running this morning. I didn't have time to do a proper warm up, but I kinda liked it because it took all the nervous energy out of me because I wasn't doing anything right. However, when the gun went off everything started working correctly. I started to remember how to race again, and really had a good time in this run. It was cool to race against some old friends.
I took it out pretty conservatively, which usually happens in college races. My first mile was in 5:11 which I was surprised at because it felt so easy. I think my extra running last weekend really was helping me out. anyway. I started working forward for the next mile and passed quite a few people by making sure I latched onto the faster moving group in front of me. A lot of times in racing you only have a second or two before the people around you who are wanting to move up are to far away to keep in contact with. I went through my two mile in 10:24 which was pretty good pacing on my part. I was still feeling good, but lost a little focus this next mile. The third mile I was just trying to hang on and beat whoever I could. It went well I suppose as I went through 3 miles in about 15:38. I think where I fell off mentally was mostly in the last 1200 meters of the race. I ran ok for a while, but didn't feel like I could pick it up all that much. I need to get my mind back in the racing mindset.
I finished in 19:40, so my my last three 400's would have been just slower than 1:20 a piece. Not too shabby considering I ran a whole lot slower last week.
