RACE DAY

2 mile warmup

Split up into two runs, one with the team, one by myself.

Felt like I should have done more striders.

THE RACE

It was a LVC on a pretty difficult course with a big hill we ran 3 times. It was raining the entire time. The first 800 felt really easy and I was around the top next to Frank. The next 800 we picked it up a lot and split 5:22. There was still a bunch of us packed together but it was pretty much 3 of us and one guy 50 meters ahead. Going up the first hill I was strong and kept pulling forward running well. We reeled in first place on the downhill before the second mile and I wound up stumbling into the lead just by holding my pace. Still felt strong.

Came through 2 miles at 10:39. I lost it a bit on the third mile and Frank put a gap on me and another guy from Gettysburg. The Gettysburg runner then started to pull away from me. I hit the third mile in 16:20 and got passed by another running just after. As we approached the last uphill in the fourth mile two Gettysburg runners went by me and that was a little demoralizing. I felt myself starting to come back a hair on the uphill but then I lost it on the last third. Crossing the bridge there was pavement and it killed my feet due to wearing spikes to the point where I slowed down because it hurt so much. Just to give you an idea of how much it not only hurt that I had to slow down, but how much faster I would have been going to begin with had I not had that problem.

I hit the fourth mile in 21:49 and got passed by another person. As I came up on 800 to go I began going back and forth with someone behind me who wound up pulling on me with about 400m to go. I had a kick in the end but it didn't come until the last 100 meters. Finished in 27:02, fairly satisfied.

Would have been at least 15 seconds faster if I did not have spikes in because of how much I had to avoid the pavement all over the course and how bad the gravel was, and my third and fourth miles sucked and should have been faster. Live and learn, good first meet.
