July 25, 2010 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 70s, humid, HOT
Comments:
Woke up at 6ish and drove home. The plan was to do some marathon pace work but I was WIPED OUT -- feeling a bit over-trained -- so I just went for a long easy run.
The key to running easy is making sure the run feels BORING. If you run too fast, the neuro input of the increased effort actually increases endorphins as well as gives you something to focus on -- which is why it's commonly "fun" to grind the pace. But when you're truly running easy, it feels BORING.
Well, this run was BORING AS SHIT. Kept it at 6:40 for the first half at least, before gradually getting the pace down. Ran the PRE loop, then came back to do my Springfield loop: the I5 bike bridge over to Gateway, then all the way down Pio Parkway.
Started to get gut rot after 8 miles -- I think it's because of taking too many S-caps -- I took one before and another at an hour. It could be too much salt w/insufficent water. I dunno, but I had to deuce like crazy from 60min, on. 3 stops total.
Ran into Dorris Ranch and did two laps, but the legs felt SHOT.
ALSO: Nerve tension THROUGH THE ROOF in both legs, probably from the driving. BUT: I think my R heel pain IS NERVE TENSION. When I think about it, it started after the long drive to CA a month ago, when I had heel pain just walking around after that DRIVE.
Anyway, this run SUCKED. Moreover, I was sick to my stomach the rest of the afternoon, pretty much blowing the entire day. F.
