lots of running

Wow, what a day... the ups, the downs, it had it all. I'll start at the beginning. I ran the college race, and I think things could have gone better. I had a bad start, was not wearing the right type of shoes. Most days it is ok to wear flats when running, but the giant mud pit that was Eagle Island yesterday was not right for the ice skates that I call my Brooks ST racers. I got out ok about 5:17 but it didn't feel easy at all. I felt I was working much to hard for that time, and knew that I was in for a bit of a long race. However, I remember running hills thursday and thinking that I kept running them faster even though I thought there was no way I would. You can push through a lot. I ran about 26:50 for those five miles which I am not super happy about, but it was a slow course and i felt that I pushed when I didn't want to.

Now for the races. Guys varsity was first, and I was happy that DJ showed up even though he is getting over sickness. This was not a great day for the boys. It just seemed like most everyone was running about 30+ seconds behind where they should/could run. I believe part of this was a slow start for many. The race was a mess, but we have to be mentally ready for anything that comes at us. The great things were Clayton stepping up and going from a last minute addition to a top five runner, and the fact that Capitol looks like a beatable team if we can all click at districts. We still beat a lot of teams and even beat some decent 5a squads running what should be our worst race of the season.

Second race was the V. girls. Wow, we had some lessons learned here, and even though we did not run our best we had some people step up and pick up the slack from the rest of the team. That is what we need to be. Help each other out. Do not limit your place on the team, and run with furious tenacity. The deal isn't sealed by any stretch to get to state, but if we keep working and learning from mistakes we should do great.

JV boys provided some surprisingly good races from a few runners where three of them were fast enough to be on our varsity...(although only one was fast enough to move up) This was a great day for most. I saw great competitiveness all across the board.

JV girls were missing Kristina (hope you shot something) for the stellar top five, some ran well, some not so much. In some ways this is a good time to have a bad race. We have next week off, and have plenty of time to fix any problems that have occurred. That being said. I love watching your girls race, and love watching our team move up as the race goes on.

Freshman girls were a great way to finish the day. It was getting late and it looked as thought the race might be canceled, but what happened was that thunder struck and our girls ran awesome. I was beaming after this race seeing these three run so well in such wild conditions. Sara was the embodiment of PPT this week. She was smiling and giving thumbs up even from across the lake. It was so great driving home with this as my last thought from a wild race day.
