Wanted a long run and a tempo today, so I thought I would turn the middle 7-8 miles into a progressive tempo. Got out to W river trails easy and once I got back onto pavement I started to take the pace down slowly. Got to Minehaha falls and slammed some water and shot bloks. Got back to it. This was the primary stretch at AT pace. I wanted to run Ford Bridge --> Franklin at a good tempo pace with each mile faster than the previous. Got going at a good pace, slowly picking it up for 10 minutes. That's when I hit the 2 mile mark and I was able to start taking times. I was getting pretty damn hot (rookie mistake to run my tempo on a one way bike path with a 10MPH wind at my back, I just roasted). 2nd to last mile was 5:45 and the last mile was 5:34. This were a little tougher than I wanted. But I think I was low on salt? and it was fucking hot out. My mouth was pretty parched afterwards and I had a pounding headache for the rest of the run. No fun.
Nice to have a long run and a tempo in on one day. Already have 70 miles in after 6 days and I can look forward to a solid 53 hours of rest from running!
