3rd ANNUAL WALDO LAKE CIRCUMNAVIGATION.

Didn't get up too early, and actually didn't hit the road 'til 845. Was on the trail running at 1015, equipped with one 20oz bottle on my Camelbak bottle belt, + some raisins, a Clif shot, and 3 S-Caps. It was legitimately COLD, even at 1015 -- maybe 50F. Wore a short sleeve T but with a hat and gloves.

Had GUT ROT to begin with and, unfortunately, it only got worse -- likely due to the S-Caps. Deuced x2 before I left, then again at the Shadow Bay CG. Wisely packed TP after deucing AGAIN at North Waldo CG.

Legs felt TIRED. Kept it easy and smooth on the nice northward leg from SB to NW (6.5 mlies). The gut improved a bit 'til I got to the headwaters of the N. Fork Willamette (10mi), where I took another S cap. Gut rot WORSE. F! I had to salt, though -- and I was hoping the legs would feel better.

The loop is BEAUTIFUL, but the gut rot put a damper on the run. Took one more S-cap at 2hr into the run and DEUCED in the woods (#5 for the day???). Saved a bit of TP "just in case"....

This loop is real flat until the SW corner, then you get an endless supply of ups and downs. Legs actually felt pretty good (thanks to the eletrolytes) and the gut calmed down a bit.

The last 2 miles -- after the S. Waldo Ski Shelter -- were ROUGH. Really tired out, AND a North wind off the lake chilled me quite a bit. Almost a touch woozy due to fatigue and some creeping dehydration. Just pushed through it and got to the boat launch. WIth a MILE to go (on the road), I had a MEGA-DEUCE come on, so I had to scamble into the woods for DEUCE #6. WTF!?!?

Wrapped up the run in 2:38. Maybe 12-13 min worth of stops though (mostly DEUCES!). This was definitely my least favorite of the 3x I've done this run...but still good.

The BEST PART: drove into Oakridge and went to Brewers Union (www.brewersunion.com) and had two terrific English-style cask ales (an ESB and a brown ale) and read some YellowstoneBeartooths books. 13 days 'til the trip...

LASTLY: at the end of that run, I topped 100 for the WEEK. Solid. However, running that "pretty easy trail", I got this sinking feeling, realizing, "MY F-ING GOD: Western States is 100 miles IN ONE DAY -- on trail MUCH WORSE". That was a demoralizing thought... Lot of work to go...
