September 25, 2010 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Kinda windy but otherwise perfect weather to run
Comments:
This course was TOUGH. A lot tougher than I was expecting. Going in I was kinda thinking that it would be something like up around the big hill to start and then it would be kinda flat for the rest. Not true! The "rolling hills" turned out to be killer the rest of the race. I got out where coach said right behind the front two CMU guys.
We crested the big first hill fine and I just tried to settle in. But I just never could. I wish I would have been able to stay with them longer but at about three quarters of a mile I regonized that I was going to tank real bad if I tried to push with them any longer:( Which sucks.
From there I tried to find my rythum which was so hard to do. It took me about a mile and a half to really feel like I got into rythumn and feel semi in control of my race again. Up till that point I felt as if I was powerless to stop the people passing me.
But after that it got marginally better. I was able to hold position and in the last 1000 meters attempt to pass someone back. I falied miserably but at least I was racing again at that point. After making the U turn before the castle I felt totally dead but did manage to hold position down the final staight and not get passed by Matt Jacob.
Overall thoughts: My legs were dead after the first hill and that cost me later in the race. Should have gone out slower. The Oberlin people knew whats up. Need to focus on hanging on when I'm tired. Big problem that I couldn't hang with a pack late in the race and couldn't stop the bleeding when I was getting passed by people in the first and second miles. I got beat by Dan Addis?? And Justin Kerp?? nuf said
Teamwise I felt we did okay
We got rocked by both CMUand Oberlin. I feel like we went out too fast and that contributed to us losing to Oberlin but those top 2 from CMU were just in another league out there today. I feel like I can close the gap on them some in the next 4 weeks but theres some serious work that needs to be done. Plus JP didn't even run for them and Matt Jacob was 11th. We can definitly get Oberlin though. They went out slower than us and were able to move up late. Next week is a flat course and we'll be keying on them and be ready. I'm not worried as long as we focus, work hard, and are ready. A good thing though. The guy that won last weekend at Penn State Berhand (he beat the entire Mount Union Team) was 17th today. As long as he didn't have a huge off day today, we'll destroy Mount.
Static 1, roll, pick 8 abs, some pushups
No splits from the race yet.
