5x1000s on the cinder track w/ 400m recovery + :30-1:30 rest

Felt good to finally do a workout I couldn't hit the pace for. It's nice always hitting pace and feeling fine going fast, but it's also nice to finally struggle so I know how to work through the pain and my body shutting down when it comes to a race. Especially since every race this season my body feels like it's dying and I've never felt strong all of the way through, so this was a good change to prep me.

Wanted to do the first and last around 2:25 800 pace and the middle 3 around 2:20 pace or below to simulate where I struggle in a race. This was also given I was on a regular track, not a cinder track that normally has a fault of 3 seconds per lap more effort.

After my first lap alone I knew this was going to be tough. The last 100 of my second one I already began to tighten up. My hamstrings were tight for the rest of the workout. After the third one I told my coach I'm shooting for two more but I will probably only get one. He said that was fine but to at least just trot through the last one. The last one I went out behind everyone, even with 200m to go I still had a group pretty far ahead of me. Caught them with 100m to go and not kicking like a nut. Could have caught Matt if I kicked like crazy but wasn't necessary. Amazed how fast I went for the last one given how I felt and how I ran it.
