Oberlin Inter Regional Rumble

October 16, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Beautiful day to run. The course was a little soft in places but otherwise perfect

Comments:
So I came into this race thinkig that top 25 would be a good day. I also threw out the number of 25:37 but top 25 was my main goal. Coach just said to go today there was no pack goal or anything. I was just to run. SO I went out. It went out slower than I expected. I was just hanging in the back of the lead pack and I came through the mile around 5 flat. The lead pack broke into two groups shortly after that and I just tried to hang on to the back of the second lead pack. There was an Oberlin guy around the same spot with me and I tried to get in front of him and hang on to the back of the second pack. About mile 2 or 3 I passed him for the last time and tried to pick off people that were falling off that second pack. I just kept doing that unitl there was about 1000 to go when we came out of the trails for the last time. I started picking it up from there and passed a bunch of people all the way in and ended up 14th.
This race was pretty good overall for me. I think I should have tried a bit harder to stay with the second pack in the middle stages of the race because I could have launched my kick from a higher position and passed the same amount of people and ended up in a higher spot. Maybe closer to 10 and beat Nate Bussier from CMU.
Team wise the day was pretty good. We burried Oberlin which was awsome. And we closed the gap on CMU. But we lost to both Albion and Wabash which are in our region. This is bad bu we lost to both of them by less than 11 points so if we target them in a month we'll beat them at regionals.
